Automatia by Isabelle Wenzel

Automatia, a duet between photographer, video artist and performer Isabelle Wenzel and a drone, depicts the artist in a series of apocalyptic landscapes. A dry, barren plain, a field in winter where the stumps of the harvested crop stick out, yellow and stark, from the black soil, a studio with a green screen, an abandoned hardware store parking lot. These settings are desolate and ‘dehumanized’. We see the body of the artist in performative motions, which are echoed by a flying eye in the form of a drone. Wenzel questions our relationship with machines and what impact they have on our physical being in the world.
