To Melt/ To Crystallize by Hollie Miller, explores the artist’s desire to ingest the sugar-coated landscape of mid-winter Finland through her body, only for it to overpower her in exposing the vulnerability of human flesh. ‘To Melt’ is set by a frozen lake and in an empty gallery, switching between dynamic ideas around looking, nurturing and adorning, juxtaposed with static endurance sections in reference to the spiritual. ‘To Crystallize’ explores Miller’s fear of erasure induced by the anxiety of apocalyptic climate change interwoven with imagery referencing the untimely and gruesome deaths of female saints Joan of Arc and Lucretia.
